Absences, Early Dismissals, and Tardiness
Parents are required to call the ABSENTEE NUMBER – 624-3153 by 7:30 a.m. if your child is to be ABSENT OR TARDY. If the office is not contacted, you will receive a phone call from the school to verify the absence. More than five absences and/or tardies per quarter that are not related to chronic or catastrophic illness or injury will be deemed excessive and will be referred to the Assistant Principal and/or the Visiting Teacher from Cincinnati Public Schools.
Homework will be prepared for an absent student unless otherwise requested by the parent when contacting the absentee number. Another student may pick up the homework in the absent child’s homeroom at the end of the day or a parent may pick up the homework in the child’s homeroom between 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. If tests are administered during a student’s absence, the student will make up the test at a time determined by the teacher.
No student may leave school or be sent home without the knowledge and consent of the homeroom teacher and office personnel. Requests from parents for early dismissal for appointments must be given to the homeroom teacher before classes begin in the morning. Students are to be picked up in the school office and are to be signed out by the parent or designee. If a student returns to school from an appointment, he/she must obtain a pass in the office to return to class.
All students are required to be in their homerooms by 8:00 a.m. Anyone who arrives after that time is considered tardy. Parents who foresee that a child will be tardy should send a signed note with the child or call the school Absentee Number – 624-3153. When a student is tardy for any reason, he/she should report to the office and obtain a tardy slip to present to his/her teacher. Although students who serve the 7:30 a.m. Mass are not considered tardy, they must report to the office for a pass. (Excused tardies would include early morning doctor’s appointments. Unexcused tardies would include “running late and/or oversleeping.”) If a student has more than 3 unexcused tardies in a quarter, he/she will not qualify for the Principal’s Award.
