Cookie Ministry

The Cookie Ministry is a mission of Guardian Angels School in conjunction with Guardian Angels Church’s Peanut Butter Group.  For those who are not familiar with this mission, it is a way for our children to help the poor and hungry population in the St. Francis de Seraph community of Over-the-Rhine in downtown Cincinnati.

Each Tuesday morning there is a group of Guardian Angels Church members (called the Peanut Butter Group) who assemble about 1500 bologna and peanut butter sandwiches.  Once completed, these sandwiches are immediately driven down to St. Francis de Seraph Church to be distributed to those who come and request food.

Bagged cookies are passed out along with the sandwiches to the poor and hungry.  The cookies are an added bonus, especially for the small children who appreciate the sweet treats.  Sometimes the sandwiches and cookies are all these children eat during the day until the soup kitchen opens in the evening.

Each GA classroom will be assigned one or two particular weeks of the school year to donate cookies and support this mission.  A schedule is included to show which classroom is responsible for each week.  With the exception of holidays and off-days, the cookies are usually scheduled for Monday donation dates.  Please review the schedule to see which date your child’s classroom is assigned and mark your calendars.  If there are any school changes which affect the schedule, your classroom will be notified.

What has been requested in the past is for each student to bring in about two dozen cookies, brownies or rice krispie bars each.  These treats do not have to be homemade, but they do have to be “bagged” – 2 treats to a baggie.  We cannot take cookies that are packaged in bulk from a store because, due to health codes, they cannot be distributed along with the sandwiches unless properly wrapped.   So please remember, it is important to take a minute or two longer and bag the treats.  Also, please do not send the treats in any kind of container that you need to be returned.
