March into Good Health

MARCH INTO GOOD HEALTH

New to the 5k this year is the G.A. MARCH INTO GOOD HEALTH initiative which is a kid focused program emphasizing a lifestyle of healthy eating and increased fitness activities. March is National Nutrition month so GA will march into a month of nutrition education and awareness through nutrition tips, exercise events on the playground and gym, special fruit and vegetable days in the café, and a personal tracking log for each family/student.  To download the personal tracking log click on the link above.

If you haven’t had a chance to get started on those New Year’s health and fitness resolutions, every Wednesday we will have a tip and link to valuable resources related to our weekly nutrition and fitness challenges.  A complete listing of valuable health and fitness resource links including recipes and allergy information can be dowloaded above. The four nutrition challenges include:

  • Staying hydrated and making good beverage choices
  • Incorporating more fruits and vegetables
  • Adding whole grains
  • Getting adequate calcium

These areas are important in enhancing your overall health and fueling your fitness!  The fitness challenge is to get 60 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week.  Different types of exercise will be introduced each week focusing on:

  • Flexibility and stretching
  • Strength training
  • Cardiovascular fitness

We will be providing weekly tips on Angels on Air and offering ways to challenge the whole family in each of the four nutrition and fitness areas.  You’ll be able to record your progress each week on the health and fitness log listed above.

Nutrition challenge links for each week will be:

Week 1 – View “Rethink Your Drink”
View “Drink Less Soda”

Week 2 – View “Focus on Fruits”
View “Focus on Vegetables”

Week 3 – View “Go for Whole Grains”
