Investment in School Annual Fund Yields Beautiful Results
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.”
–Helen Keller
Since November of 2006, the Guardian Angel s School Annual Fund has been a powerful source of providing resources for the school to serve its students and families. With close to a half million dollars in gifts, the Annual Fund projects have taken Guardian Angels School to a new level of serving the needs of our students and creating an environment that reinforces the educational process on every level. While some of the projects cannot be seen or touched, the investment in our school has yielded beautiful results.
Science Lab
For five years, students at every level have conducted lab work in the science lab. Students are comfortable in a laboratory environment which complements the inquiry-based science curriculum. Participation in the annual science fair has increased, and last year, Guardian Angels students represented their school proudly at the Regional and Ohio State Science Fairs.
School Library
Gifts to the Annual Fund provided structural and technological improvements to the school library. Guardian Angels School has a strong tradition of participation in the Accelerated Reading program, and the school library is the epicenter of encouraging and providing the materials for our students’ continuing reading success. For the past two years, students in grades 5 through 8 have attended the Northern Kentucky University’s Bookfest, representing hundreds of hours of reading preparation.
Basic Needs
The Annual Fund has helped provide renovations and improvements that have improved the quality of the students’ cafeteria experience. Acoustic panels and tables help create a quieter, safer experience during lunch. Ongoing improvements and updates to the bathrooms have helped create clean, safe, and private facilities that ensure the basic and developmental needs of our children.
Technology
Every day seemingly brings new advances and opportunities in technology, and through the Annual Fund, Guardian Angels School is able to expand and maintain its outstanding technology program. Each homeroom is equipped with a Smartboard which teachers use for morning announcements and throughout the day as they instruct and invite interaction. The student-run Angels on the Air studio gives our junior high students the chance to write, produce, and present morning announcements, developing critically important presentation and organizational skills.
The Guardian Angels campus is now completely wireless, and the Annual Fund provides ongoing maintenance. Not only was the wireless technology a critical component to the success of the one-to-one tablet PC program being introduced in the 6th and 7th grade this year, but it also allows for teachable moments anywhere. Classes using the outdoor reading garden or working in art class have the immediate and secure option of researching a topic, developing and deepening the educational process.
Professional Development
Perhaps the most important effort that the Annual Fund has supported is ongoing professional development for the Guardian Angels School faculty and staff. With your gifts, Guardian Angels keeps its teachers on the cutting edge of delivery of instruction and educational models. Five years ago, teachers brought differentiated learning concepts to the classroom—meeting each child at his or her level and need. As we look at the Guardian Angels alumni graduating from local high schools and continuing their education in college, we see how they have become the academic and spiritual leaders in their schools. Perfect ACT scores, inductions into national honorary societies of various subjects, communion ministers, leads in plays and musicals—the list of alumni accomplishments lengthens each day. But the bedrock of their Catholic education began in the classrooms and with the teachers of Guardian Angels School.
Things not seen, but felt…
Some of the projects the Annual Fund has provided cannot be seen or touched, but the effect of those initiatives can be seen every day in the faces of our students, past and present. Gifts to the Annual Fund this year will continue to support technological maintenance and expansion, ongoing improvements to the bathroom facilities, and professional development.
The gap between the cost of educating a student compared the amount of tuition paid continues to widen. That gap coupled with uncertain state auxiliary funds and increasing costs leave no other source of funding for these critical components and vital initiatives that differentiate GA from other schools.
We hope you will choose to participate in this year’s Annual Fund at a level that makes sense for you and your family. Help us continue the wonderful legacy of Guardian Angels School.
